BELONGING
Belonging is about connection, identity, and where we feel at home.
What does belonging mean?
You can respond to belonging through personal experience, family, friendship, heritage, community, culture, language, whenua, migration, memory, or the places and relationships that shape who they are.
Identity
How do you understand yourself, and what parts of your identity help you feel seen, grounded, or connected?
Heritage
How can ancestry, whakapapa, family stories, traditions, or inherited objects shape a sense of belonging?
Community
What groups, friendships, schools, neighbourhoods, or shared spaces make people feel included or excluded?
Culture
How do language, customs, food, music, clothing, faith, values, or creative practices carry belonging across generations?
The theme is a starting point. Students may interpret belonging literally, symbolically, personally, socially, or experimentally.
